I have a background in nursing and have gained extensive experience with my midwife business over the past 9 years.
All through nursing school, I managed to never see a birth. I had no interest in it. Birth was scary and gross. The majority of my nursing experience was in hospice and home care.
But I noticed a difference in my patients who were cared for in their homes:
Rested enough to pay attention to the education I was providing.
Comfortable enough to retain the information.
Able to have visitors who provided encouragement.
How did I make the jump into midwifery?
The birth of my first child in the hospital was terrifying – it was medicated, processed, and a crisis was happening at every corner. But I was young and healthy….why was this happening to me?
During my second pregnancy, I was bullied and harassed my entire pregnancy.
I was told I was a selfish, single woman to bring a child into the world that showed markers of having down syndrome. Every appointment turned into an interrogation of why I wouldn’t terminate my pregnancy. Labor was long and traumatizing, but I birthed a completely healthy boy with no deficits.
My son was four months old when I found out I was having another child…surprise!
Mentally & physically I was unprepared to go through this again, which led me to hire a midwife for my daughter’s birth. The experience changed my life and after she was born, it was abundantly clear where God was leading me…
I was put on this earth to make sure no pregnant woman would have to go through the bullying and harassment that I went through in the medical system.
