Let’s discuss 5 things you probably won’t hear from your OBGYN….
Ultrasounds can be highly inaccurate – a baby’s statistics, like weight, are often off by as much as 1 lb or more, which is a huge difference for a baby. Ultrasound measurements should be used as loose estimates only and NOT for birth interventions.
Your due date is a GUESS – only 3-5% of babies are born on their actual due date. Babies come when they come and that’s okay.
Postpartum period is forever – when your baby is born, so are you. The postpartum period is forever. A 6-week checkup is not long enough to support a new mom.
Delivering the placenta can be difficult – after your baby is born, the placenta still needs to birth. This can often come with more contractions, cramps, and a lot of discomfort.
Delayed milk production is COMMON – pushing formula on newborns while mom waits for her milk supply to come in can be harmful to the baby’s developing immune & digestive system.
It is important to build a reliable & trusted birth team as well as a team who you can surround yourself with to look after & care for you for MONTHS after your baby is born.
