What was the first thing you said when you saw your baby for the first time?
I just repeated “OMG OMG”. I was just in shock that I had my first home birth and birthed my baby in the comfort of my own home. I got to catch my own baby and hold her right away! It was such an amazing experience.
How was your birth experience different from what you imagined it to be?
The calm and relaxing setting of my own home was just amazing. I didn’t realize how much doctors and nurses disturb you. I wouldn’t want to birth any other way now. I got to be in the positions I wanted to be in, own my own body and decisions. My husband got to be there every step of the way. I definitely thought my birth was going to be as quick as my others but baby was also stubborn and didn’t want to get in a good position. Being at home I got to get through that without the word of a c section like the hospital might of suggested.
Did you learn anything about yourself through this experience?
I’m stronger than I could ever imagine. I did so much to prepare for my home birth but it seriously amazed me how “easy” it was when I was confident in my self. My husband was a big part of keeping me strong as well.
Any words of advice to the mama having her first homebirth?
You will be amazed how strong you really are!
Is there anything else you would like to share with Jennifer and The Pittsburgh Midwife team?
Jennifer and Tara are seriously amazing! They make you feel like you have known them for years and have the best personalities.
