The greatest gift you can give your children is a strong connection between you and your partner.
Do you agree?
Your life is changing dramatically.
No more impromptu plans.
No more fully rested nights.
No more weekend naps without fitfully waking up because you think you hear your new baby crying…
Research has shown that 67% of couples report a decline in relationship happiness for up to 3 years after the birth of their first child.
Why?
Focus has shifted.
Couples spend less time focusing on one another; romance and intimacy decline.
Enter depression and hostility.
Yet you yearn to enjoy your new baby AND be happy as a couple.
With Mother’s Day coming up we are going to be talking about how to stay connected as a couple and as a family, especially while we hunker down for these last few weeks of cold weather.
To start it off, here are some tips you can start to implement NOW to help maintain a healthy relationship with your partner after bringing home a new baby.
đź’“Maintain friendship – when couples remain good friends, there is less anger and hostility. They are better equipped to handle challenges. Staying on top of the little details of your spouse’s life is CRITICAL for connection and intimacy.
💓Ask your partner these questions to help get reacquainted with each other: What is one of my greatest fears? What is one of my most embarrassing moments? Name one of my favorite novels/movies. What is your fondest memory of us? What is your favorite thing to do with me for fun? How do you envision our family’s future in the next three years?
💓Have a daily stress-reducing conversation. Stress leaves us feeling overwhelmed and emotional. Couples who can vent, receive support and show empathy for each other feel like they are “in it together.” Feeling heard and understood helps alleviate unwanted tension that can otherwise enter into the relationship.
With your partner by your side, you can find new ways to APPRECIATE and LOVE one another.
Afterall, the greatest gift you can give your children is a STRONG relationship between you and your partner.
