“What questions do you need to ask Jennifer on our discovery call to make sure you are comfortable with the idea of a home birth?”
This was one of the most important factors in moving forward with my plans for a homebirth – my husband needed to be 100% on board. Not 50%, not 80%….100%.
I get the whole “my body, my birth”, but my husband is my rock and the reason I was able to make it through the birth of our first child. I need him to be mentally & physically prepared to bring a baby into this world in our home.
“I want to know if she is prepared to bow out & make the call before it’s too late if anything goes wrong.”
This was his main concern & I am glad he had the opportunity to ask because Jennifer’s response secured his position on moving forward with her team.
“If I lost moms and babies during birth, I wouldn’t do this anymore. It isn’t a status of pride for me. I help moms deliver their babies safely & if all goes well, in the comfort of their home.” – Jennifer
Birthing in a Midwife Center for the first time was already a big step for him.
When I mentioned having a Midwife, his first response (back in 2020) was “aren’t those like witches or something”. It took everything in me to stifle my laughter and help him understand what exactly a Midwife was and wasn’t.
The decision to transfer from two different OB practices & then land at The Midwife Center didn’t come easily or lightly for him. It took months of research both together and separately for us to come to the realization that it was the sweet spot between a hospital birth and a home birth.
But after the experience, I was still left wanting more from birth….
